3 Und einer259 sprach559: Lieber2974, gehe3212 mit deinen Knechten5650! Er3212 sprach559: Ich will mitgehen.

4 Und er ging3212 mit ihnen. Und da sie1504 an den Jordan3383 kamen935, hieben sie Holz6086 ab.

5 Und da einer ein259 Holz6982 fällete, fiel5307 das Eisen1270 ins Wasser4325. Und er schrie6817 und sprach559: Awe, mein Herr113! Dazu ist‘s5307 entlehnet.

8 Und der König4428 aus Syrien758 führete einen Krieg wider3898 Israel3478 und beratschlagte sich3289 mit seinen Knechten5650 und sprach559: Wir wollen uns lagern8466 da4725 und da.

9 Aber der Mann376 Gottes430 sandte zum Könige4428 Israels3478 und ließ7971 ihm sagen559: Hüte dich8104, daß du nicht an den2088 Ort4725 ziehest; denn die Syrer758 ruhen5185 daselbst.

10 So sandte7971 denn der König4428 Israels3478 hin an den Ort4725, den ihm der Mann376 Gottes430 sagte559, verwahrete ihn und hütete daselbst; und tat das nicht einmal259 oder zweimal8147 allein.

11 Da ward das1697 Herz3820 des Königs4428 zu Syrien758 Unmuts5590 darüber und rief7121 seinen Knechten5650 und sprach559 zu ihnen: Wollt ihr mir denn nicht ansagen5046, wer ist aus den Unsern zu dem Könige4428 Israels3478 geflohen?

12 Da sprach559 seiner Knechte5650 einer259: Nicht also, mein Herr113 König4428; sondern Elisa477, der Prophet5030 in Israel3478, sagt5046 es alles1697 dem Könige4428 Israels3478, was du in der Kammer redest1696, da dein Lager4904 ist.

13 Er sprach559: So gehet hin3212 und sehet, wo351 er ist3947, daß ich hinsende und lasse7971 ihn holen. Und sie5046 zeigten ihm an7200 und sprachen559: Siehe, er ist zu Dothan1886.

14 Da sandte7971 er hin Rosse5483 und Wagen7393 und eine große3515 Macht2428. Und da sie bei der Nacht3915 hinkamen935, umgaben5362 sie die Stadt5892.

15 Und der Diener8334 des Mannes Gottes430 stund frühe auf6965, daß er376 sich7925 aufmachte und auszöge3318; und siehe, da lag eine Macht2428 um5437 die Stadt5892 mit Rossen5483 und Wagen7393. Da sprach559 sein Knabe5288 zu ihm: Awe, mein Herr113! Wie wollen wir nun tun6213?

16 Er sprach559: Fürchte3372 dich nicht; denn derer ist mehr7227, die bei uns sind, denn derer, die bei ihnen sind.

17 Und4390 Elisa477 betete6419 und sprach559: HErr3068, öffne6491 ihm die Augen5869, daß er sehe7200! Da öffnete der HErr3068 dem Knaben5288 seine Augen5869, daß er sah7200; und siehe, da war der Berg2022 voll feuriger784 Rosse5483 und Wagen7393 um Elisa477 her5439.

18 Und da sie zu ihm hinabkamen3381, bat6419 Elisa477 und sprach559: HErr3068, schlage5221 dies Volk1471 mit Blindheit5575! Und er schlug5221 sie mit Blindheit5575 nach dem Wort1697 Elisas477.

19 Und Elisa477 sprach559 zu ihnen: Dies ist nicht der Weg1870 noch3212 die2090 Stadt5892. Folget3212 mir nach310; ich will euch3212 führen zu dem Mann376, den ihr suchet1245. Und führete sie gen Samaria8111.

20 Und da sie gen Samaria8111 kamen, sprach559 Elisa477: HErr3068, öffne6491 diesen die Augen5869, daß sie sehen7200! Und der HErr3068 öffnete ihnen die Augen5869, daß sie sahen7200; und siehe, da waren935 sie mitten8432 in Samaria8111.

21 Und der König4428 Israels3478, da er5221 sie sah7200, sprach559 er zu Elisa477: Mein Vater1, soll ich sie schlagen5221?

22 Er sprach559: Du sollst sie nicht schlagen5221. Welche du mit deinem Schwert2719 und7617 Bogen7198 fähest, die schlage5221. Setze7760 ihnen Brot3899 und Wasser4325 vor6440, daß sie essen398 und trinken8354; und laß sie zu ihrem Herrn113 ziehen3212.

23 Da ward3739 ein groß1419 Mahl3740 zugerichtet. Und da sie gegessen398 und getrunken8354 hatten, ließ7971 er sie gehen3212, daß sie zu ihrem Herrn113 zogen. Seitdem kamen935 die Kriegsleute1416 der Syrer758 nicht3254 mehr ins Land776 Israel3478.

24 Nach310 diesem begab sich‘s6908, daß Benhadad1130, der König4428 zu Syrien758, all sein Heer4264 versammelte und zog5927 herauf und belagerte6696 Samaria8111.

25 Und es war eine große1419 Teurung zu Samaria8111. Sie6696 aber belagerten die Stadt, bis daß ein Eselskopf2543 achtzig8084 Silberlinge3701 und ein Vierteil Kad Taubenmist1686 fünf2568 Silberlinge3701 galt.

26 Und da der König4428 Israels3478 zur Mauer2346 ging5674, schrie6817 ihn ein Weib802 an und sprach559: Hilf3467 mir, mein Herr113 König4428!

27 Er sprach559: Hilft3467 dir der HErr3068 nicht, woher370 soll ich dir helfen3467? Von der Tenne1637 oder von der Kelter3342?

28 Und der König4428 sprach559 zu ihr: Was ist dir? Sie sprach559: Dies Weib802 sprach559 zu mir: Gib5414 deinen Sohn1121 her, daß wir heute3117 essen398; morgen4279 wollen wir meinen Sohn1121 essen398.

29 So haben wir meinen Sohn1121 gekocht1310 und gegessen398. Und ich sprach559 zu ihr am andern312 Tage3117: Gib5414 deinen Sohn1121 her und laß uns essen398! Aber sie hat2244 ihren Sohn1121 versteckt.

30 Da der König4428 die Worte des Weibes802 hörete, zerriß7167 er seine Kleider899, indem er zur Mauer2346 ging5674. Da sah7200 alles1697 Volk5971, daß er einen Sack8242 unten am Leibe1320 anhatte.

31 Und1121 er sprach559: GOtt430 tue6213 mir dies und das3254, wo das Haupt7218 Elisas477, des Sohns Saphats8202, heute3117 auf ihm stehen5975 wird!

32 (Elisa477 aber saß3427 in seinem Hause1004, und1121 die Ältesten2205 saßen bei ihm.) Und er7971 sandte7971 einen Mann376 vor6440 ihm her. Aber ehe der Bote4397 zu5462 ihm kam935, sprach559 er zu den Ältesten2205: Habt ihr3427 gesehen7200, wie dies Mordkind hat7523 hergesandt, daß er mein Haupt7218 abreiße? Sehet zu, wenn der Bote4397 kommt935, daß ihr6963 die Tür1817 zuschließet und stoßet ihn mit der Tür1817 weg; siehe7200, das Rauschen seines Herrn113 Füße7272 folget ihm nach310.

33 Da er3176 noch also mit ihnen redete1696, siehe, da kam der Bote4397 zu ihm herab3381 und sprach559: Siehe, solch Übel kommt von dem7451 HErrn3068; was soll ich mehr von dem HErrn3068 gewarten?

Chapter 6

1 AND the sons of the prophets said to Elisha, Behold now, this place wherein we dwell with you is too small for us.

2 Let us go to the Jordan and cut from there every man a beam, and let us make a place for us to dwell there. And he said, Go.

3 And one of them answered and said, If you please, go with your servants. And he answered, I will go.

4 So he went with them. And when they came to the Jordan, they cut down trees.

5 But as one of them was felling a beam, the axehead fell into the water; and he cried and said, I beseech you, my lord! it was borrowed by your servant.

6 And the prophet of God said to him, Where did it fall? And he showed him the place. And he cut off a stick and thrust it in there; and it stuck in the hole of the axehead.

7 And he said, Take it up to you. And he put out his hand and took it.

8 Then the king of Aram warred against Israel, and took counsel with his servants, saying, In such and such a place shall we lie in wait.

9 And the prophet of God sent to the king of Israel, saying, Beware that you do not pass this place; for the Arameans are lying in wait.

10 And the king of Israel sent to the place of which the prophet of God told him and warned him about it, not once nor twice.

11 Therefore the heart of the king of Aram was sore troubled because of this thing; and he called his servants and said to them, Will you not show me who of us is for the king of Israel?

12 And one of his servants answered, and said, None of us, my lord 0 king; but Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the thing that you plan in your bedchamber.

13 And he said, Go and see where he is, that I may send and take him. And it was told him, saying, Behold, he is in Dothan.

14 Therefore he sent there horsemen and chariots and a great army; and they came by night and surrounded the city.

15 And when the servant of the prophet of God arose early and went out, behold, an army surrounded the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said to him, Alas, my master! what shall we do?

16 And he said to him, Fear not; for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.

17 And Elisha prayed to the LORD and said, O LORD, open his eyes that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw; and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

18 And when they came down to him, Elisha prayed to the LORD and said, Smite this people with dimness of vision. And he smote them with dimness according to the word of Elisha.

19 And Elisha said to them, This is not the way, neither is this the city; follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom you seek. But he led them to Samaria.

20 And when they were come into Samaria, Elisha said, O LORD, open the eyes of these men, that they may see. And the LORD opened their eyes, and they saw; and, behold, they were in the midst of Samaria.

21 And the king of Israel said to Elisha when he saw them, My father, shall I slay them? Shall I slay them?

22 And he answered, You shall not slay them; would you slay those whom you have taken captive with your sword and with your bow? Set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink and go to their master.

23 So he prepared for them a great banquet; and when they had eaten and drunk, they went to their master. So the raiders of Aram came no more across the border of Israel.

24 land it came to pass after this, that Bar-hadad king of Aram gathered all his army, and went up and besieged Samaria and fought against it.

25 And there was a great famine in Samaria, as they besieged it, until an ass's head was sold for eighty pieces of silver and the fourth part of a cab of dove's dung for five pieces of silver.

26 And as the king of Israel was passing by upon the wall, there cried a woman to him, saying, Help me, my lord, O king.

27 And he said to her, Let the LORD help you; whence shall I help you? Out of the threshing floor or out of the wine press?

28 And the king said to her, What troubles you? And she said to him, This woman said to me, Give your son, that we may eat him today, and we will eat my son tomorrow.

29 So we cooked my son and ate him; and I said to her on the next day, Give your son, that we may eat him; but she had hidden her son.

30 And when the king heard the words of the woman, he tore his clothes as he walked upon the wall, and the people looked, and behold, he was wearing sackcloth within upon his flesh.

31 Then he said, May God do so and more also to me, if the head of Elisha the son of Shaphat shall remain on him this day.

32 But Elisha was sitting in his house and the elders were sitting with him; and the king sent a messenger; but before the messenger came to him, he said to the elders, Do you see how this son of a murderer has sent to take away my head? Look, when the messenger comes, shut the door and push him outside, because the sound of his master's feet is behind him.

33 And while he was still speaking with them, the messenger came to him; and he said, Behold, this evil is from the LORD; why should I pray to the LORD any longer?
